Well, what is it? Why? Personally one of my favorites is Albert Camus' short story collection Exile in the Kingdom.

Salinger's Raise High the Roof Beam, Carpenters. I just think it's hilarious.

I'm a fan of Salinger, but I haven't read that one. I'll have to pick it up some time.

It's included with Salinger's other story Seymour: An Introduction, which I liked a lot less and barely got through.

I won't judge. Although I haven't read a lot of fantasy/scifi stuff.

Re: Favorite books
You guys should read The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. That's a favorite. Also, Thade, I have Camus's The Stranger and The Myth of Sisyphus, but I haven't been able to bring myself to read anything lately. I keep staring at Horns...
EDIT: It's probably because I spend too much time on /lit/ and they hate everything ever written by anyone.

Fountain! Start with The Stranger. The Myth of Sisyphus is more of a philosophical essay. And I can't say I've ever heard of Vampire Hunter D.

VHD is a novella about steampunk futuristic gothica <.< it was original for its time. The writing itself is what self it. Their written entirely in "purple prose".
Fountain I swear to god I intended to read that book when you let me borrow it. I just... forgot about it.

What about graphic novels?

Are we counting Japanese graphic novels? Real ones, not just serialized magazine ones.

I've been far too busy fangasming over Tokyo Ghoul to not consider it a graphic novel. But Solanin is a graphic novel. And, yes, I'd count the Japanese ones. I'm not sure if you mean manga or not.

The line between manga and graphic novel is very thin. Anyway. The Demon Ororon was mine.

Re: Favorite books
My favourite book by far would be The Stand by Stephen King, though just behind that would be probably Adam Smith's The Theory of Moral Sentiments, and then after that most anything by Boethius.

Oh hey! I finally have an answer that isn't lame. Screw me if I can't remember the author but. Darkness. It was about a vampiric countess and an italian doctor. This was back before the days of vampires being romantic trash.

You know what, fuck it, Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy is my favorite book. Sure, I only read half through it, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Plus, I really fucking love the movie.
Edit: Wait, do graphic novels/comics count?
If yes, then my favorite on-going book series is The Walking Dead.

Fuck it, I'm going to make a thread for comics. We need it.
EDIT: Oh. I already did. Go me.
How was Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy anyway? What was it like?

Re: Favorite books
It was cool. I didn't read a whole lot, but I enjoyed the most I did.
The contractor that was going to bull-doze the main character's house at the beginning of the story was apparently a descendant of Genghis Khan, and it's just funny how the narrator explains it and everything else.

Re: Favorite books
I finally, honestly have something educated to say here, and it's all thanks to an argument with Mr. Fountain about how he hadn't read it. Dante's Divine Comedy.
There. I sound educated again. That's better.

What can I say? I just don't like much of anything made before 1850.
